Discussion of the Lunsford Lane Narrative

Have students read Lane’s narrative, or excerpts from it, found online at http://docsouth.unc.edu/lanelunsford/menu.html.  (This work is property of the University of North Carolina.  It may be used freely by individuals for research, teaching and personal use as long as this statement of availability is included in the text.)

This lesson is best used after students have a general understanding of antebellum slavery and Southern history.  Page numbers listed in parenthesis after discussion questions are those of the online narrative; these numbers are not exhaustive.  For synthetic and evaluative questions, page numbers are omitted, for they are based on the entire text.
